Later, in Hearts and Minds (1973), Peter Davis goes beyond the political issues to examine the cultural characteristics of American society. He asks what made possible the irrational prolongation of the conflict to the point where the volume and gravity of the atrocities took it into the realm of a crime against humanity.

Plus tard, le réalisateur Peter Davis s’est interrogé, dans Hearts and Minds ( "Les Coeurs et les Esprits"), en 1973, sur les traits culturels américains qui, par-delà les considérations politiques, avaient pu favoriser l’extension irrationnelle du conflit jusqu’à lui faire atteindre, par le nombre et la gravité des atrocités commises, les dimensions d’un crime contre l’humanité.
