The Internet cult is a cult of youth - of and for young people. It is a sort of permanent revolution in which young people decide the direction that it will take. Internet guru Nicholas Negroponte takes this view to its limits, saying that he sees this same decentralisation mentality at work in our society, driven by the youth of the digital world. He says the traditional centralising vision is going to become a thing of the past and the notion of the state is going to undergo a radical change. While politicians struggle with the inheritance of history, a new generation, freed from the old assumptions, is, he says, emerging from the digital landscape. Digital technology could be a natural force attracting people into a greater global harmony.

Le culte de l’Internet est un culte jeune, de jeunes et pour les jeunes. Il est conçu comme une sorte de processus de "révolution permanente", où ce sont les "jeunes" qui déterminent la direction du mouvement. Nicholas Negroponte est l’auteur qui va le plus loin dans la mise en scène de ce jeu-nisme : "Je vois cette même mentalité de décentralisation à l’oeuvre dans notre société, sous l’impulsion de la jeunesse du monde numérique. La vision centralisatrice traditionnelle va devenir une chose du passé. La notion d’État va subir une mutation radicale. (...) Pendant que les politiciens se débattent avec l’héritage de l’Histoire, une nouvelle génération, libérée des vieux préjugés, émerge du paysage numérique. (...) La technologie numérique peut être une force naturelle attirant les gens dans une plus grande harmonie mondiale."
